Parks & Open Spaces
Muswell Hill and North London are very 'green' with many beautiful parks.
The largest park in Muswell Hill (and one of the biggest in London) is Alexandra Park. This is situated 5 minutes walk from Excel English. From Alexandra Park there are wonderful views across London and you can even go rowing on the boating lake.
The Railway Walk starts near Excel English. This long, narrow park follows the route of the railway line which used to go from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Park. It has many trees and shrubs and is surprisingly quiet.
After about 15 minutes walk, you'll get to Queen's Wood which is a large area of woodland with many lovely walks. If you feel hungry after your walk, there is an excellent vegetarian café in the middle of the wood. On summer weekends you can even sit and watch cricket near the cafe.
Kenwood, with its beautiful landscaped park, is a few minutes by bus from Muswell Hill. Kenwood House is worth visiting for its many beautiful paintings as well as its architecture. In the summer there are open air concerts overlooking the Kenwood lake. Kenwood is also next to Hampstead Heath, one of the largest wild areas in London.
Waterlow Park, near Highgate, is one of the prettiest parks in London. Lauderdale House, at the entrance to the park, was the home of Nell Gwynn, one of King Charles II's mistresses. |
