Central London

The only problem with London is knowing where to start!  In a city which is over 2000 years old, there is so much to see and do it is difficult to decide what to choose first.  In fact London is many cities not just one.

Historic London

You can visit famous historic sites, such as the Houses of Parliament,  Westminster Abbey, St Pauls Cathedral, the Tower of London and Maritime Greenwich.  London also has many world class museums such as the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Modern London

London now has some of the most exciting architecture in the world such as the Swiss Re Building (nicknamed 'The Gherkin' by Londoners) and the Lloyds Building .  Many of the most modern buildings are in the new London financial centre of Canary Wharf, which you can easily visit by underground or the Docklands Light Railway.

Royal London

The UK has one of the oldest monarchies in the world and in London you can visit Buckingham Palace, the home of Queen Elizabeth, or Kensington Palace where Princess Diana lived.  You can see the fountain erected in her memory and walk the Royal processional route along the Mall.

Artistic London

The National Gallery, Tate Britain and Tate Modern are three of the  famous art galleries in London, but there are many more, and most of them are free.  London is also full of antique shops and markets where you can buy artworks to take home.

Financial London

London is a major financial centre with the main European stock Market based in the City of London and other financial headquarters located in London Docklands.

Shopping London

Whether you prefer classic design or up to the minute fashion, you can find it in London.  Oxford Street and Regent Street are home to many famous department stores but probably the most famous 'shop' in London is Harrods in Knightsbridge.  You can also find unusual jewellery and souvenirs at the many London markets.

Restaurant London

A famous American food magazine has just voted London the capital of world food.  In London you can eat from A to Z, with excellent restaurants serving food from every country in the world.  Eating in London also doesn't have to be expensive as there are many cafes and bars where you can eat cheaply.

Night time London

London never sleeps!  There are cinemas, theatres, opera houses and concert halls as well as modern bars and traditional pubs.  And of course, London is well known for its famous nightclubs such as the Ministry of Sound where you can dance the night away.

Students speak

"First I was a little sad when saying goodbye to my boyfriend for two weeks, but as soon as I came to London, all my fears and sadness  disappeared.  My host family was the most pleasant family and it really made me feel like home.  But my astonishment at this amiability has not ended here.  I must say that London is the nicest place I have ever been to, and people in London are the kindest people I have ever met! This is also the reason I want to go back some day – as soon as possible.  Because all those nice people make you feel nice as well.

There is another great side of London – all the Museums and Galleries are for free! And in my opinion they are all truly amazing!  You can see the works of the world’s greatest artists, you can see the religions of the world and in the Victoria and Albert Museum, for example, you can see a piece of every part of the world – from Japan, India, all the way to America.  There is also a department of fashion – for those who prefer clothes over history.
