Paid Work Experience

These placements are designed for students who want to improve their language skills, learn more about British culture, and improve their employment prospects – while at the same time earning money.  The work experience placements are usually in the catering or hotel industries and you must be willing to work anywhere in the UK.  You must also be able to work for a minimum of 3 months.

If you are from the EU

You will need a good level of English for your placement (IELTS 6.0 or above) so we recommend you take a Super Intensive English course at Excel English for a minimum of 4 weeks before starting your placement. We will concentrate on improving your speaking and listening skills so you are able to communicate easily in your UK company.

If you are NOT from the EU

You will need to take a ‘sandwich’ course at the school, starting with a minimum 4 week Super Intensive English course, then your 3 or 6 month work placement, and finally a further week at the school to complete your work project, assessment and feedback.  This type of ‘sandwich’ course should give you student status when applying for your UK visa.
