First Day

Most people feel nervous when they start something new so we will try to make you feel comfortable as quickly as possible on your first day.

We want you to start enjoying yourself immediately, so we -

  • tell you about the school, Muswell Hill and London
  • give you a Students' Handbook which is full of useful information on what to expect at the school, where to go for help, and living in London
  • give you maps of the local area, and also of the London underground, and explain how to travel around.
  • give you details of the social activities we have planned and how you can join them

The tests we give you to find out your level of English include -

      • grammar & vocabulary
      • writing
      • speaking & listening

After the tests are marked, we place you in the class which will help you make the best progress.  You will get your personal timetable the next morning.

After lunch on your first day, you will -

  • explore the local area with a member of our staff, so you know where to find the banks, post office, cinema, shops, pubs and restaurants.
  • travel into central London so you can see how easy it is to use the underground, and have a free sightseeing tour of some of the main London sights

At the end of your busy first day, you will have begun making friends and will have started enjoying Muswell Hill and central London.  We also hope you will have overcome your nervousness and that you are looking forward to starting your lessons.

Students speak

"On my first day at school, as usually happens when you start a new experience, I was a little bit nervous because I didn't know what to expect.  But after one or two days I felt at home and after one week it was as if I'd been here all my life.  I have found at school a lot of friendly people, the teachers, the school staff, and the students.  I have made a lot of new friends and I am able to learn about a lot of different cultures."
