It is with great sadness that Judy Loren (Founder, Principal and Managing Director) of Excel English has today announced the school in Muswell Hill, North London will close on August 30th, almost 30 years to the day it opened.
The main reason for the closure is the downturn in the industry over the past few years which has led to lower numbers and therefore declining income. Speaking from the school, Judy has made the following statement –
“Although I had hoped to continue running Excel English for a few more years, I have decided the time has come to close the school and start on the next phase of my life. For quality independent schools to survive in the current climate, extremely proactive sales and marketing is required, for which I no longer have the energy or financial resources. I have loved my 40 years in this industry and the 30 years running the school. I have travelled to countries I’d never have dreamed of visiting, met many wonderful people and had the pleasure of watching students not only improve their English but expand their emotional and intellectual horizons. I’d like to thank my many friends in the industry (overseas partners and those from other schools and associations) for their support over the years and especially the members of TEN (The English Network) who have been so willing to share their knowledge and best practice to help me and my dedicated team keep Excel English in the top tier of UK language schools. Many of our wonderful teachers and administrative staff have been at the school ten years or more and we’re also still in contact with those who’ve moved on to manage other language schools, run teacher training programmes or join the British Council inspectorate. Without their hard work, Excel English would never have had the reputation it has earned over the years. Thank you all so much!”
Excel English will continue to operate at its usual high standards until the closure on August 30th with everyone working hard to ensure the students have their best summer ever. The school is also planning a party for staff, students, homestay hosts and friends that afternoon/evening to celebrate 30 years living up to their name.
