British Culture for Teachers

British Culture for Teachers is a one week course for teachers of English or other subjects who would like to improve their English by learning more about the UK, past and present.

European citizens and those from accession countries may be eligible for Erasmus+ funding.  For details see separate page.

Details & Highlights

This course is aimed at those in the teaching profession whose current English level is B1 (Intermediate) level or above.   The one week course can be combined with one of our 2 week courses for teachers, another one week course, or with general English.

During your one week course you will have 22.5 hours  with your trainers, divided into language enhancement and an excursion into central London.  You will be asked to complete a needs analysis questionnaire when you book so we can plan the sessions around the exact language objectives and interests of the group. During the sessions, you will take part in small group and pair work activities, open discussions and workshops, and your trainers will of course include error correction to ensure your fluency improves. You will also benefit from the combined experience and ideas of all the participants.

The sessions are topic based and designed to cover different aspects of British history and culture.   Sessions could include –

  • The changing face of British society
  • The English education system
  • British literature & film
  • British food – is it really terrible?
  • London in song
  • Politeness in the UK
  • The Royal Family

By the end of the course you will have increased your knowledge of British culture and improved your overall language proficiency.

After lessons, you can join our guided self study sessions and can also take part in our regular programme of cultural and social activities, in order to fully benefit from your time in London.
